The Tilt Test
A quick experiment. Open your MacBook and pull up whatever you normally work on. Take your Meridian glasses and hold them in front of the display, but don't hold them level — start with them tilted at least 45 degrees to one side. Halfway to sideways. Either side works.
At 45 degrees, the screen is dimmed similarly to the world around you — your display doesn't feel special at this point. Tilt further and your display gets even dimmer.
Now slowly rotate the glasses back toward level — the way you'd actually wear them. Watch the screen.
As you approach level, the screen starts getting noticeably brighter while everything else around it stays the same. The world doesn't change — ambient light is still getting cut — but the screen is getting more and more of its light through the lenses. By the time you're level, your MacBook's display is popping out at you.
Note: the screen won't get complete 100% passthrough — the stylized coloring of the lenses adds some uniform dimming, polarization aside.
